U.S. gas prices surge to new record

Gas prices have skyrocketed to a new nationwide record of $3.07 per gallon, nearly 20 cents higher than two weeks ago, according to oil industry analyst Trilby Lundberg. The previous record was $3.03 per gallon, reached on Aug. 11, 2006.

In the Twin Cities, gas prices are averaging $2.94. According to www.twincitiesgasprices.com, some of the cheapest gas is in the south metro - a Farmington station was selling regular self-serve gas for $2.84 a gallon as of 7:30 a.m. today.

Michigan gas prices up 2.8 cents per gallon

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) -- The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in Michigan is 2.8 cents higher per gallon than last week, AAA Michigan said Monday.

The statewide average of $3.05 per gallon is 77 cents higher than a year ago at this time.
